About Us
The Mississippi Delta has long been known for its colorful
writers who have told stories of this eclectic portion of the state with
its miles of flat farm land and long, hot summers. However, literary
talents are not the only flair that its inhabitants possess. Within
the Mississippi Delta reside some of the finest artists in all forms of
media that one would find anywhere in the world. In 2000, their collective
artistic talents brought together five original members to form the association
that we now have, The Delta Artists Association or DAA. The five
founding members included Libba Burle, Juanita Gray, David Jones, Jim Land,
and Jamie Tate. Jim Land was elected the first president of the association.
At that time there were 26 additional members who were the charter members
of the organization.
The founding members developed their purpose and goals
for the organization as written below in the bylaws of the association.
The purpose of this organization shall be:
To support and promote visual artists in the Greenville
area.
We will fulfill our purpose through:
-
Exhibit and Sales
To assist professional and no-professional artists in exhibiting
their work in a dignified and professional manner.
-
Education and Development
To provide a program of continuing education and Experimentation
leading to individual discovery and personal expression.
-
Sharing of Information, Ideas, and Inspiration.
To provide a meeting place for artists to meet and discuss different
techniques, experiences and media.

The passion and commitment to the arts and artwork that this
original group had has attracted a membership today that includes over
70 active members from throughout the Mississippi Delta and a few members
in the Arkansas Delta. And the membership continues to increase as
more and more talented artists join the mix.
The Delta Artists Association sponsors an annual art show
for all its members. Guachoya Cultural Art Center in Lake Village,
AR, sponsors an annual show in the spring for the DAA members. Area
businesses showcase artwork. For example Delta Regional Medical
Center has a continual art exhibit of DAA members in the front lobby.
Artwork and a delicious meal may be enjoyed at Posecais Restaurant in Greenville,
MS. Each year many members donate artwork to fund-raiser functions like
Art for Heart.
Thank you for your interest in our art and our members.
We hope you will take a minute to look at our gallery, discover some interesting
facts about the artists, and hopefully find something there that you just
can’t live without. Enjoy your visit!
